About

A Space for Me is a counselling service run by Tracey & Richard Wollocombe. Tracey is a Highly Specialist Systemic & Family Psychotherapist and is a member of the Association of Family Therapy (AFT) and is a registered member of the UKCP (United Kingdom Council of Psychotherapy). Richard is a fully qualified and experienced therapist. He is an accredited member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists). These safeguards and professional standards require both Tracey & Richard to ensure their practice is competent, safe and ethical, while at the same time giving peace of mind to their clients.

Tracey is a fully qualified highly specialist Systemic & Family Psychotherapist offering direct Systemic Psychotherapy with individuals, families and couples.  Having in excess of 34 years experience of working with children, adolescents, adults and families.

Systemic Family Psychotherapists work in ways that acknowledge the context of people's families & other relationships, sharing and respecting individuals' different perspectives, beliefs and experiences whilst exploring ways forward.  The therapeutic work and systemic thinking takes into account influences from the wider social and cultural systems such as school and work.  Influences from the past and present as well and an exploration of a preferred future are kept to mind in the sessions.  There is strong & growing research and evidence base for the kind of expertise offered within Systemic Therapy.

Tracey has worked within CAMHS (Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services) for 23 years and has now chosen to focus her in-depth skills and experience within private practice here at A Space For Me. As a qualified Supervisor (PGCert), Tracey can also offer supervision to mental health professionals and students of Systemic Practice.  Systemic teaching and consultation sessions are also available from Tracey upon request. "Offering a safe, compassionate and high level of service within Systemic therapy & supervision is of paramount importance to me.  I am excited to now join up with Richard at A Space for Me and expand a counselling and psychotherapy service with a broad range of treatment options that fit for the individual, family or couple."

Richard is a BACP Accredited therapist, trained and qualified to work within Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) models, and provides an integrative approach in his practice. Richard says, “My training in different models means I can be very flexible in my approach to my client’s presenting needs”.

Working from a Psychodynamic perspective can help a person to look back on their life and identify the source of psychological issues that may be troubling them today.  Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is often, due to its impressive research history and proven track record, the first therapy of choice offered by the NHS. Richard specialises in a model of CBT called Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy (REBT). REBT is philosophical, evidence based and widely supported by clinical research. Unlike some forms of CBT which deal primarily with a presenting problem, REBT looks at the person as a whole and provides a therapeutic structure which helps a person to achieve long, lasting emotional and behavioural change throughout the whole of their life.

Tracey and Richard's therapy operates within  robust ethical frameworks required by their professional bodies (UKCP & BACP).  More information can be given at our first session with you.
