A Space for Me is a counselling service run by Richard Wollocombe. Richard is a fully qualified and experienced counsellor. He is a registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) ,which helps him to ensure his practise is competent, safe and ethical, while at the same time giving peace of mind to his clients.
Richard is trained and qualified to work within Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) models, and provides an integrative approach in his practice. Richard says, “My training in different models means I can be very flexible in my approach to my client’s presenting needs. Rather than trying to get the client to fit my preferred model, I can move between models to ensure that I offer my client’s a treatment plan that fits their needs first”.
Working from a Psychodynamic perspective can help a person to look back on their life and identify the source of psychological issues that may be troubling them today. The process of talking through these difficult periods, which have often been hidden away because they are so painful, can be an emotional release and an incredibly uplifting experience.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is often, due to its impressive research history and proven track record, the first therapy of choice offered by the NHS. A Space for Me practices a model of CBT called Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy (REBT). REBT is philosophical, evidence based and widely supported by clinical research. Unlike some forms of CBT which deal primarily with a presenting problem, REBT looks at the person as a whole and provides a therapeutic structure which helps a person to achieve long lasting emotional and behavioural change throughout the whole of their life.
Having access to and moving between both models, as needed, can help a person gain an understanding of any difficult times from their past and then use the tools they learn to help cope with the present.
A Space for Me can offer help with many well know areas of difficulty, such as:
- Bereavement and other Loss issues
- Lacking confidence
Richard is very keen to point out that people should not view this list as exhaustive. He comments, “To know you are suffering is enough, without then making it worse by trying to get it to fit a certain psychological term. This isn’t important. What is important is being able to talk about what is troubling you and to then develop ways of coping with this and moving your life forward”
Many of today's stresses, low moods and anxieties come from the busy working lives we all lead. Richard has 25 years of experience working at a Managerial level for a number of large US, UK and European commercial organisations. He says, "I have worked in a demanding business environment and so feel qualified enough to understand and help with the stresses felt by individuals who are also working in today's fast moving commercial world".
A space for Me is situated in Eakring, Nottinghamshire. It is ideally placed to provide quick and easy access for people wanting counselling from Nottingham, Southwell, Newark, Mansfield, Worksop, Retford and their surrounding areas. Richard can see people at Eakring or carry out home visits if this is more suitable and convenient.
