A Space For Me - Counsellor in Newark Nottingham
"I have my family and friends, who I am really close to, but I just can’t tell them what is bothering me"
This is a phrase I hear repeated so often. It could be that your loved ones have their own concerns and can’t cope with hearing about the stress you are feeling? Maybe they just don’t understand what is happening to you and feel they can’t help you?
People come to me and tell me about a dilemma in their lives, often because they feel they can't approach family or friends. This may be for all sorts of reasons like not wanting to burden them or just feeling they may be misunderstood. It can be hard to talk to people about your loss, fears or anxieties. Maybe you have tried but they just urge you to "Get a grip and move on" for example. The everyday challenges life presents can leave us feeling bewildered, depressed, stressed, anxious, guilty, ashamed and a myriad of other emotions. Often, that leave us feeling trapped in our own minds, and this can lead to a feeling of being ready to burst with the pressure of coping.
This is where counselling and psychotherapy come in, it is just a space for you to talk and try and make sense of everything that is upsetting you. The thought of telling it all to a complete stranger can seem a little unnerving. Just remember that the stranger is trained to listen and help you work your way through the things that are troubling you. The therapist will listen without judging you. You don’t have to be concerned about upsetting relationships or friendships by what you think and say. It is your space to focus on you, a space for me.
